Stefano Boeri Architetti has created a housing solution in Eindhoven combining the challenges of climate change with those of the housing shortage.
The project embodies the idea of a 'vertical forest' for social housing, encouraging growth in all senses of the term.
Designed to accommodate predominantly low-income users, especially young couples and students, the 19 floors of the tower host 125 apartments with affordable rents and a high quality of life, thanks to the presence of 8,500 trees and plants from 70 different species.
The inclusion of one tree and 20 shrubs on each balcony allows for reduction in air pollution, absorbing 50 tons of CO2 yearly and creating a green habitat that enhances biodiversity.
This project has been longlisted in the housing project category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
