Atelier Cns has designed the Pearl River Brewery Phase II in Guangzhou, China.

This project is focused on the rebirth of industrial heritage in Guangzhou, where the specific site of development was once the Zhujiang Brewery – one of Guangzhou's greatest memories.

In order to regenerate the site, the design work started with the most complex building: the former steam turbine factory with adjacent equipment – later referred to as the "turbine factory".

As an office building project, the riverside was originally defined as open public space. The waterfront greenway, the outdoor platforms, and the mechanical maintenance walkway are all connected into a multi-level pedestrian system, introducing different viewpoints and walking experiences in both horizontal and vertical dimensions.

The already well-acheived goal for this project was to protect the industrial legacy and develop the space into an office building for the Zhujiang Brewery Group – while the design challenge was to find a balance between the preservation of industrial memory and the formation of a contemporary lifestyle.

This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
