Tree Hotel by Tham and Videgard Arkitekter

2011 review: January

To finish off 2011 we're showcasing our five most popular stories from each month of the year. First up is January, when this mirrored treehouse hotel in Sweden was our most-clicked story. That month we also featured an office with a slide hidden behind a mirror, a salon full of reflective cubes and mirrors shaped like car windscreens, before rounding up our top ten stories about mirrors here.

Google-office-by-Scott-Brownrigg-Interior-Design

Architecture firm Scott Brownrigg's offices for internet giant Google came in second, with a Brighton beach theme for the interiors and a giant logo in the lobby.

House in Fukawa by Suppose Design Office

The House in Fukawa by Suppose Design Office came in third; it features an internal maze of wooden rooms and platforms.

Made to Pleasure

In fourth place is online brand Made to Pleasure, who allow customers to design and customise their own sex toys.

House-in-Hieidaira-by-Tato-Architects

Tato Architects complete our January list with their House in Hieidiaira, a series of cottages with a crystal geometry.

Also in January this year, the New World Symphony’s orchestral academy designed by Frank Gehry opened in Miami Beach, Bjarke Ingels Group designed a power plant for Copenhagen that will blow smoke rings and double up as a ski slope, work restarted on the Leadenhall Building in London by architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, having halted in August 2008, and photographer Nick Wood and architectural rendering studio Hayes Davidson showed us what the Shard might look like from different points in London once it's completed in 2012.

The Dezeen team reported from Cologne, where the best new launches were at Ligne Roset and we hosted our Dezeentalks at [D3] Design Talents series - you can now watch the interviews on Dezeen Screen.
