Estudio RF has created a beachside residence in Peru based on the area's shifting ecosystems to connect with its surroundings.
The experimental project is based on explorations of the ecosystems of the north Pacific tropical sea of Peru, a place where both cold and warm ocean streams meet. It redefines the concept of habitat by responding to the dynamism of this fluctuating landscape.
The use of local materials and reformulation of traditional construction techniques ensure low construction costs and minimal environmental impact. Sustainability and autonomy are integrated into the design within solutions such as water recycling, solar panel energy systems, and waste management – essential daily activities that force us to be aware of what it really means to inhabit a space.
This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
