Xing Design has designed the Shanghai YuYuan Metro Station in Shanghai, China.

This project is located in the heart of Shanghai, serving not only as a node for public transportation but also as a gateway for urban scenic tours.

The curved water-wave ceiling visualises the illusion of Huangpu River above this metro line: these "waves" lap onto the columns, creating a rhythmic pulsation and an arcade.

The ceiling is optimised by parametric design technology – combined with lighting to form a three-dimensional LED canopy – which presents various light effects according to different holidays and events. It's also open for public submission, so the public can continuously add colourful soul to the Shanghai YuYuan Metro Station.

This project has been longlisted in the civic and cultural interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
