Ida and Billy Architects has created an escalator void in a Hong Kong shopping mall to provide timeless appeal.
The project is set within a transitory space in the Pacific Place Shopping Centre, one of the most prominent shopping malls in Hong Kong.
The design offers a moment of grandeur, with undulating lines to generate the form, giving it life and energy. In this triple-storey space, the lower level is calm with a waving curtain, while the upper level is powerful with a stretch of height and surprise with nature abstracted in stillness.
It is a simple, total design to concentrate and give power. It aims at a timeless feel that endures amid changing fashions and eras.
This project has been longlisted in the small retail interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
