F.O.G. Architecture has created a retail space in Shanghai to highlight the character of its architectural setting.

The project is located in a building belonging to the city's 'Spanish Colonial Revival' architecture. Sited amongst many of its kind built 100 years ago, it presents structural details both historical and western that have been married with the modern and eastern values of the scent brand currently occupying the space as its flagship store.

A dialogue is created between old and new in the reformatting of the space, such as with the lowering of the floor at ground level, and in details such as reimagined use of the building's many doors and window as opportunity for reframing points of focus with clever use of mirrors.

The discord becomes a motif by intention, highlighting the originality of both the building and the brand.

This project has been longlisted in the large retail interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
