Condition Lab has created a series of machines powered by the movement of the wind to capture fleeting moments of time on paper.
The project calls into question the process of drawing and memory, instead seeking to highlight elements that can be experienced but not captured such as wind and rain.
The 50 machines are made and installed in different locations to capture individual moments and translate them into an abstract form of ink drawings on paper. Designed to be portable and work as individual modules or groups, their structure sees wind flow through, making flags move and pens draw. They come up with drawings that trace moments when and where the machines are placed, capturing an ephemeral memory where the human hand is replaced by the hand of nature.
This project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
