Valdís Steinarsdóttir has designed Shape.Repeat in Reykjavík, Iceland.
This project lies in the innovation of natural material and the new method it proposes for garment making. Shape.Repeat allows people to stop and rethink current manufacturing methods. Additionally, there is a strong educational value to this project as it shines a light on the wasteful nature of our society.
Designer Valdís Steinarsdóttir has extensively researched new ways of manufacturing clothing and has since created Shape.Repeat. Instead of cutting out patterns and sewing, she uses a two-dimensional mould to shape the clothing with natural liquid material.
When the material dries, the article of clothing is mostly ready. With this technique she eliminates excess scraps, just the exact amount of material is used for each garment.
Although the material is natural, it has a plastic-like look and feel, and with further developments, it can replace synthetic materials.
This project has been longlisted in the wearable design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
