Rigards has designed the Rigards Model RG2046WD in Hong Kong.

This project was spurred by the pandemic lockdown, where Rigards set out to create eco-friendly eyewear made from repurposed materials, using old timber flooring and recycled aluminium sourced locally.

"We modelled the frame after right angle beams, sloping roof and arches based on our family home, avoiding synthetics due to concerns with microplastic in the ocean since plastic eyewear is abundant in recent times," said Rigards.

The RG2046WD is an original, sculptural design that weighs only 12 grams with sustainability at its core. It is free from plastic, adhesive and synthetic paint, with the wood parts merely waxed and titanium arms kept raw.

This project has been longlisted in the wearable design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
