White Sack is a solution that uses microbial biodiversity for reducing waste.

The project was designed as a solution to reducing waste in response to an increase in online shopping and its corresponding packaging materials.

The design concept sees microbes used to decompose corrugated fibreboards and paper waste to feed earthworms, taking approximately 10-11 weeks to turn the packaging material into nutrients for plants and trees.

White Sack provides each user with a recycled container made from five used manure sacks, to be filled with waste and collected. This is then processed into about 20kg of vermicompost, which is the amount of compost they will receive in each round of service when delivered.

This project has been longlisted in the sustainable design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
