Piet Hein Eek
Piet Hein Eek is a designer and founder of eponymous sustainable design practice Piet Hein Eek.
In 1990 Hein Eek graduated from the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven. There he designed the Classic Cupboard in Scrapwood, a storage cabinet made from reclaimed materials using traditional woodworking techniques.
In 2010 the company moved to the former Philips factory in Eindhoven which is now developing into a creative hotspot with a showroom, gallery, shop, hotel, restaurants and, finally, the workshop as the core of the company.
Where labour is increasingly outsourced or mechanised, Eek has kept his workshop in Eindhoven where every product is made by hand, emphasising craftsmanship.
