Promotion: this Milan design week, glass lighting brand Lasvit will debut a number of designs, including celestial-inspired lamps by David Rockwell and a cloud-shaped glass and light installation by Maxim Velčovský.

Lasvit's exhibition, It All Comes From Above, will feature in the Euroluce lighting showcase at the Salone del Mobile furniture fair in Milan.

The exhibition will also include new products from designers Yabu Pushelberg and the Campana Brothers.

By taking reference from the skies, Lasvit hopes to capture the imagination of visitors from all over the world.

"Although they are the most commonplace views in every part of the world, they connect all of humanity across the globe," said the Czech-based design house.

The centrepiece will be Cloud, a dynamic glass lighting work by Maxim Velčovský, who is Lasvit's creative director.

This monumental yet highly intricate installation will aim to emulate the meditative experience of cloud-watching and draw on the historical significance of clouds to cultures throughout history.

"Maxim Velčovský's Cloud explores the connection of individuals and structure, individual perspectives connected into something larger, something that transcends us all," said Lasvit.

David Rockwell, American architect Rockwell Group founder, will present three new designs in his Constellation lighting collection, which takes cues from the ceiling mural of New York's Grand Central Terminal.

Resembling star charts, the designs incorporate glass-domed lamps connected by metal arms. Each is named after a constellation that matches its form.

The Ursa Minor chandelier, Cassiopeia wall sconce and Gemini table lamp join the previously launched Polaris floor lamp, Cassiopeia chandelier and Tri Star wall sconce.

"Each lighting fixture serves a dual function: to dazzle the eye as a focal point and to unify any setting in which it is placed," said Rockwell.

Yabu Pushelberg – led by Canadian designers George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg – has designed a lighting collection called Miles, which uses curvaceous horn shapes to draw parallels between glass-blowing and music.

Meanwhile, Brazil-based Estudio Campana has worked with Lasvit to create the Sushi ceiling lamp, which reinvents the studio's Sushi furniture collection from a decade ago.

While the original designs used offcuts of carpet, rubber and EVA to create colourful spiral patterns, the Sushi ceiling lamp is made up of similar forms in crystal glass.

"We managed to keep its playfulness while introducing luminosity to the work," said Humberto Campana, who is now the sole director of the studio following the death of brother Fernando in November.

The exhibition will be completed by the mushroom-inspired Symbioosa lights created with mycelium specialist design studio LLEV, the flower-like Florescence installation by Lasvit's Martin Gallo, and three sculptural interpretations of Lasvit's Icons series.

It All Comes From Above will be on show at Euroluce from 18 to 23 April 2023, located in Hall 15, Booth 212.
