Raum has renovated a public swimming pool and spa in Brittany, France.

This project was the creation of a sports pool and aqua-leisure area, restructuring of a leisure pool, spa, reception, changing rooms, showers, toilets and surroundings in Saint-Méen-le-Grand.

The full renovation and the extension of the swimming pool imposed the implementation of a proliferating architecture," said Raum. "This made it possible to associate the construction of complementary spaces in coherence with the initial heterogeneity."

The existing structure was looked at objectively in its capacity to offer capable volumes already built – seeking its transformation to offer the coherence of a certain abstraction affirming the unitary status of new public equipment on the scale of the surrounding community.

"Following the example of this work of acceptance and enhancement of the diversity of the volumes already built, the renovated interior spaces were unified by the coherence of a simple colourimetric treatment, while leaving visible the different strata and original structural devices," added Raum.

This project has been longlisted in the civic project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
