3andwich Design and He Wei Studio have designed The Water Drop Library in Huizhou, China.
"It's more of a small community cultural and artistic space than a traditional library," said 3andwick Design about this project.
Located in a park next to a newly built community overlooking the sea, The Water Drop Library integrates the cultural functions of a library with media attributes of a landmark – while unifying physical experience and visual communication and exploring an innovative library model.
It's hidden at the end of the hill with a bowl-shaped roof profile; inside is a pool, below which the main building is located.
The indoor space presents a sequence of alternating light and dark and provides possibilities for surrounding residents to read, gather, rest and exhibit.
This project has been longlisted in the civic project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
