Gin Design Group has designed the Mala Sichuan Bistro in Houston, United States.

This project is a James Beard-recognised establishment that has several locations and is a mainstay of Houston's burgeoning dining scene.

From the delicate architectural and lighting details to the multitude of artisan collaborations, this space reflects the beloved memories of the owner's home province of Sichuan, China.

Impressions of ginkgo leaves glow on earthen plaster walls, traditional clay roof tiles clad the bar facade and stacked brick creates rustic seating at the entry.

Meanwhile, "A floor-to-ceiling partition laser-cut from thin sheets of metal separates the service area and creates a moody backdrop that twinkles with the phases of the moon," said Gin Design Group.

This project has been longlisted in the restaurant and bar interior category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
