Biasol Studio has designed the brand identity for the Japanese restaurant, Waku Waku.
Waku Waku is a contemporary Japanese restaurant in Melbourne's CBD that captures the understated elegance and simplicity of 'wabi-sabi' in an inviting interior – coupled with an iconic brand identity.
"We embraced the ancient Japanese philosophy, which finds beauty within imperfection and transience through a highly textured palette, celebrating the natural aesthetics of materiality," said Biasol Studio.
The brand identity takes a deliberately bold approach, which is an effective point of difference within Melbourne's Japanese dining scene.
The branding was integral to capturing attention along the busy CBD laneway location – while elevating the existing identity to attract new diners and retain the loyal patrons of the previous Waku Waku restaurant.
This project has been longlisted in the graphic design category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
