Magis and Barber Osgerby have developed Alpina, a new archetype for chairs from a perspective of all-round sustainability.
The Alpina chair is inspired by a classical model of the alpine furniture tradition.
"Simple and clean, yet curvaceous and enveloping, [Alpina] combines a solid ash wood frame (FSC-certified) with an injection moulded backrest in bio-based polypropylene that derives from waste cooking oils," said Magis.
Fully recyclable, the chair is made wholly in Italy and is capable of adapting to both traditional and more contemporary environments.
"Alpina celebrates its multidisciplinary approach, with a penchant for experimentation and a desire to juxtapose clean lines and different materials," added Magis.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable design (consumer) category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
