Abi Lambert Design has collaborated with Silt Studio to create the Biosphere Cellulose Kitchen.
"The Biosphere Cellulose Kitchen presents how the production of bacterial cellulose, as a replacement for single-use plastic, can be integrated into our everyday routines," told Abi Lambert Design.
This cellulose kitchen is a kitchen island furniture piece that creates storage bags and film covers out of bacterial cellulose, otherwise known as 'SCOBY'.
The furniture piece is divided into compartments for starting a batch of cellulose with a medium, fermenting the cellulose and drying and waterproofing the material.
From here, the bacterial cellulose will grow thick enough to dry within one week.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable design (consumer) category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
