Phaka chair by Ratthee Phaisanchotsiri for Moonler
Dezeen Showroom: created by designer Ratthee Phaisanchotsiri for furniture brand Moonler, the Phaka chair is made to celebrate Thai wood and craftsmanship.
Moonler describes the Phaka chair as having a "pure and humble" aesthetic, with a frame based on the golden ratio and detailing that reveals its handmade nature.
"The Phaka chair is a quest for the simplest structure, an essential character of a good chair," said Moonler, adding that it exemplified the "spiritual essence of an object designed and crafted by humans".
The chair is made of solid chamchuri wood, which is indigenous to Thailand, and is available with a light, natural, dark, black or rough black finish.
Phaka was awarded the DEmark Design Excellence Award and Good Design Award 2021.
Moonler was founded in 2008 by engineer Phuwanat Damrongporn and artist Sarawut Sakthamcharoen, and aims to present Thai timber craftsmanship on the world stage.
