James Gorst Architects has designed and built the New Temple Complex in Hampshire, United Kingdom.
This project is the design and development of the New Temple Complex for the White Eagle Lodge, a non-denominational multi-faith spiritual organisation founded in Hampshire, England, in 1936.
"The proposal addresses the forward-looking requirements contained in the brief: minimising the building’s impact on the environment, embracing the natural landscape and simultaneously accommodating both sacred and secular community use," said James Gorst Architects.
The new building, which is open to the public, comprises a temple, library, chapels, meeting spaces, a public foyer and a catering kitchen within newly landscaped grounds.
The rationalised plan is organised as a series of orthogonal pavilions connected by a cloistered walkway, facing onto a planted courtyard garden.
This project has been shortlisted in the civic project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
