Studio Joseph has developed The Welcome Center and its three galleries in Washington DC, United States.
The National Building Museum focuses its educational efforts on global warming, as a large portion of humanity's carbon footprint is from building industries.
These galleries talk about urban landscapes, infrastructure and architecture, asking the public for a significant commitment to personal responsibility.
The Welcome Center consists of three ground-level contiguous galleries:
- Gallery One includes ticketing and a large case showing objects in the museum's collections.
- Gallery Two displays infrastructure, constructed landscapes and urban design.
- Gallery Three allows displays of building elements emphasising their power and scale. Architects explain how they choose materials based on climate, culture and sustainability.
This project has been shortlisted in the exhibition design (interior) category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
