Spactrum has designed the Fairy Li (Chaichanglong Historic Area Urban Regeneration and Redevelopment) project in Shaoxing, China.

Fairy Li (Chaichanglong Historic Area Urban Regeneration and Redevelopment) is the first organic renewal area in the old city of Shaoxing, located in the centre of Yuecheng District.

This project has been transformed into a cultural, tourism and leisure block with a total construction area of 23,000 square metres.

"[We] regard both ordinary buildings and cultural protection buildings as integral and organic components of the site, maximising the preservation of the heritage structures from the Ming Dynasty to the 1970s and 1980s and establishing an air corridor system connecting the new buildings," said designer Spactrum.

By connecting the past and present while retaining the density of the original site and the richness of the original building complex, a parallel spatial system in the air and on the ground was introduced, becoming an important landscape and urban public space node in Shaoxing.

This project has been shortlisted in the mixed-use project category of Dezeen Awards China 2023.
