Tuba dining chair by Samuel Wilkinson for Diabla
Dezeen Showroom: rounded, tubular aluminium elements make up the Tuba chair, designed by Samuel Wilkinson for Spanish outdoor brand Diabla.
Created for use both indoors and outdoors, the Tuba chair is defined by its minimal and playful form that features a balance of straight lines and curves.
It gets its name from its use of tubular aluminium – 19 lengths in total – which are joined with no visible welds.
Diabla says that this reflects Wilkinson's quest for formal purity, blurring the the intersections between the transverse elements and the vertical supports.
"In essential chairs like Tuba, I like to find uniqueness through aesthetics, materials or processes," Wilkinson said. "Tuba's design conforms to this methodology, and manages to be legible from a single material, that of the repetitive components that build its structure."
The Tuba chair is available in seven colours and the aluminium is infinitely recyclable, according to the brand – as well as working well outdoors, the chair's durable form makes it suitable for contract projects.
