Alexandra Arias has designed Melt, a series of metalwork furniture.

The Melt series is a "groundbreaking venture into the future of metalwork design, where form and function meld seamlessly," said Alexandra Arias.

This innovative collection uses a heat-free joining technique that leverages the natural plasticity of aluminium.

By exerting several tonnes of compressive force onto meticulously engineered contact points, the Melt series achieves a seamless, weld-free joint with a beautiful ripple effect.

This process does not require the labour- or time-intensive post-production finishing typical of welding, reducing energy consumption and minimising environmental impact.

Aluminium and stainless steel ensure longevity and, combined with the use of only two materials, facilitate easy reuse in the future.

This project has been longlisted in the furniture design category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
