Son Studio has designed the Bangalow Road house in Byron Shire, Australia.

Sited on a 360-square-metre corner block, Bangalow Road House adapts to its site constraints by employing various screening elements in a space connected to its environment while maintaining a sense of seclusion within.

Geometric forms blur and soften, allowing sunlight to filter in, as well as fleeting glimpses of the landscape.

A central courtyard defined by three surrounding rectangular volumes serves as a pivotal element in enabling the home to flow between states of openness and privacy – an important feature when confronted with the proximity of a busy street.

This project has been longlisted in the house (urban) category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
