Merrett Houmoller Architects has renovated and extended Taper House in London, United Kingdom.

Taper House is a renovated Victorian terrace that departs from conventional townhouse layouts; the design features an interplay of connected volumes.

A mix of open and broken-plan spaces is opened up with generous double-height ceilings and high-level glazing, while a dramatic trapezoidal-shaped double-height kitchen and dining space is at the literal and focal centre of the plan.

Outside, low garden seating and a rainwater harvesting pond blur the boundary between inside and out, with rippled light from the pond bouncing into the house.

This project has been longlisted in the house renovation category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
