Pihlmann Architects has redesigned House14a in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Embodying a non-hierarchical collage of traces from changing times, House14a reflects the ongoing narrative of its evolution, embracing its role as a phase within an ongoing process.

Each element, whether rough or refined, weathered or pristine, old or new, contributes to the tapestry, gaining relevance through processing, assembly and the potential for continuous adaptation.

Originally built in 1951, House14a epitomised the post-war residential aesthetic, characterised by sturdy structures but limited flexibility to accommodate changing lifestyles.

By employing traditional techniques and new visions, the rigidity of the house is softened, creating versatile spaces that integrate with contemporary living and working.

This project has been longlisted in the house renovation category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
