Estudio Herreros has designed Trosten, a universally accessible floating sauna, in Oslo, Norway.

With its distinct volume, including an open-air amphitheatre on its roof, the new sauna pavilion forms the centre of gravity of the sauna village next to the new Munch Museum, also designed by Estudio Herreros.

Constructed from wood, recycled aluminium and terrazzo tiles, this vibrant structure ensures a low carbon footprint, aligning with the social and sustainability ideals of Oslo.

Named after the thrush bird that migrates between Norway and Spain, this small architectural manifesto celebrates life.

"Guided by the principle of Sauna to the People, [Trosten] is inclusive and welcoming to all, regardless of ability," said Estudio Herreros.

This project has been longlisted in the civic project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
