Cullinan Studio, Turkington Martin and 10architect have collaborated to develop the Catkin Centre and Sunflower House for the Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
The Catkin Centre and Sunflower House – designed by Cullinan Studio and Turkington Martin and delivered by 10architect – are two connected buildings that bring together specialist mental health facilities previously scattered across the hospital site and city.
The Catkin Centre provides outpatient services, including ASD, ADHD, development paediatrics, CAMHS, eating disorders and crisis care.
Sunflower House is a 12-bed in-patient mental health unit providing a home-from-home for young people with complex and enduring mental health conditions – one of only six in the country.
The facilities are designed around courtyard gardens creating a warm and welcoming environment with strong connections to nature.
This project has been longlisted in the health and wellbeing project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
