East China Architectural Design & Research Institute Co.,Ltd (ECADI) | Studio Dingshun have designed Shanghai Blue Bay Kindergarten in Shanghai, China.

As the only public kindergarten in the local area, this project provides low-cost yet high-quality preschool education for over 300 children in this often-overlooked education gap in the city's outskirts.

"The design is inspired by the image of Cloud House on the Forest, creating a new paradigm for preschool education and orchestrating a fantasy for a new teaching concept," said ECADI.

By embracing a diverse, layered village-like layout, the design addresses sunlight and functional challenges in high-density urban areas.

This layout maximises natural light, greenery and breezes, providing children with abundant opportunities to connect with nature, interact with peers and explore endless possibilities.

This project has been longlisted in the education project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
