Heatherwick Studio has designed Azabudai Hills in Tokyo, Japan.

Azabudai Hills is a new 8.1-hectare district in central Tokyo, made up of residential buildings, retail spaces, a new school, a temple, an art museum and galleries, offices and restaurants, anchored by 2.4 hectares of green space.

Combining cultural and social facilities within a three-dimensional, explorable landscape, it has created one of Tokyo's greenest urban areas.

Over 90% of the original landowners have returned to the new district after 30 years of community-focused regeneration.

"Azabudai Hills is on track to become one of the world's largest sites to receive the preliminary WELL certification," said Heatherwick Studio.

This project has been longlisted in the mixed-use project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
