COLLECTIVE, in collaboration with many others, has converted and redesigned the interiors of the Agora restaurant in Hong Kong.

Located within Tai Kwun, one of Hong Kong's most significant historic monuments comprising the former Central Police Station, the Central Magistracy and the Victoria Prison, this project aimed to convert a former prison hall into a Spanish fine-dining restaurant.

Protected by the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance, alterations to the building's original structure and materials were prohibited.

Despite constraints, with profound homage to the historical space, the design team successfully transformed the four-metre-wide, 30-metre-long space into a 26-seat fine-dining destination.

The resulting ambience exudes a warm Mediterranean touch while delicately preserving the essence of the historical granite columns and brick structures.

This project has been longlisted in the restaurant and bar interior category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
