ICD University of Stuttgart has designed the Wangen Tower in Wangen im Allgäu, Germany.
In the picturesque western Allgäu landscape, the Wangen Tower stands as a pioneering architectural landmark at the State Garden Show 2024.
Developed at the University of Stuttgart's Cluster of Excellence, 'Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture (IntCDC)', it marks a new era in timber construction.
With a height of 23 metres, its slender frame comprises 12 curved cross-laminated timber segments, each a mere 130 millimetres thick.
The tower's innovative design, utilising self-shaped timber components, explores sustainable architectural principles.
Precise digital fabrication techniques enabled rapid onsite assembly, resulting in a breathtaking structure seamlessly integrated into its natural surroundings.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
