TANK, Aoi Hirose and Takashi Arai have renovated the interiors of the Bookshelf for Generating Conversation in Hiroshima, Japan.
This project is a private library designed to enable people to communicate through the contents of books.
The site is located in Hiroshima, Japan, and is a renovation of a house built in a historic area that has long flourished as a port town.
The bookshelves are designed to function like exhibits, with space between books so that people can think about the contents of the books before picking them up.
"The bookshelves divide the space with transparent partitions so that they can interact closely with people's lives," said Takashi Arai Studio.
This project has been longlisted in the retail interior (small) category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
