Winner: Residential interior of the year. Miriam Barrio Studio has designed the Kanso Philosophy apartment interiors in Barcelona, Spain.
This apartment is governed by the principles of the Japanese Känso Philosophy, which focuses on simplicity, space flexibility and integration with nature.
As a whole, the design seeks harmony and balance, inspiring tranquillity and reflecting the discreet elegance of Japanese culture with Mediterranean touches.
The home is characterised by its minimalism, eliminating the unnecessary, and by the flexibility of the spaces and multifunctional furniture.
The connection with the environment is achieved through the large window on the facade and the use of natural materials of Mediterranean origin, such as wood and raffia, in its interior finishes.
Judges comments: “There is a real sense of harmony to the design, even though it combines two very different cultures. There is a beautiful simplicity to the lines, which feels very Japanese, but also a Mediterranean warmth. This cultural fusion feels highly innovative, functional and multi-layered.”
