Winner: Furniture design of the year. Gini Moynier has designed Formwork, a collection of upcycled furniture.
Formwork is a series of wooden furniture characterised by the juxtaposition of spruce and oak wood.
Using recovered wooden planks from the building industry, the collection revalorises pre-used materials and suggests a new aesthetic in tune with the use of its resources.
This collection was part of 'Out of the Woods Works', a research project from Geneva-based Nov Gallery.
Judges comments: “The Formwork collection uses scrap timber without looking inferior, resulting in a refined and visually-peaceful design. Rather than being discarded or burned, the collection gives prolonged value to the material and questions the corrupted idea that scrap is somehow less worthy.”
