Winner: Textile design of the year. Kirkby Design has created Aloe, a wide-width sustainable sheer textile collection.
ALOE is a groundbreaking, washable, wide-width drapery textile comprising 60% aloe vera and 40% organic cotton.
This innovative fabric marks the first use of Aloe vera in interior textiles.
Aloe vera is a more sustainable choice than conventional materials, as it grows without the need for chemicals, fertilisers, or additional watering.
The Aloe sheer fabric allows light to filter through beautifully, creating minimal blocks of colour.
Its calming neutral palette is complemented by trendy shades like Acid Yellow, Cobalt Blue and Clove, adding a contemporary touch to any space.
Judges comments: “The inclusion of aloe fibres in this textile provides a less harmful alternative to existing cotton options on the market. The fibres have potentially broad and scaleable applications that could disrupt the established cotton market.”
