Visiting School Mallorca (AAVS Mallorca) at AA School of Architecture

The Visiting School Mallorca (AAVS Mallorca) course at AA School of Architecture offers the opportunity to travel around the island to explore local stone architecture and quarries.

School: AA School of Architecture
Course: Visiting School Mallorca (AAVS Mallorca)
Location: Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Course dates: 6 January 2025 to 12 January 2025
Application deadline: 6 January 2025

This Visiting School is organised by Alexandra Chechetkina (AA School) in collaboration with Blanca Gardelegui, Guillem Aloy, Isla Architects and KOSMOS Architects and will focus on the theme of the traditional stone Marés as a local sustainable resource, its extraction, post-extractive landscapes and their relationship to urban and landscape ecologies in the Balearic Islands.

The workshop will take place in Inca and Palma de Mallorca and include short trips around the island to explore local Marés stone architecture and quarries.

Our focus will extend to the construction techniques from the local stone, its structural and climatic qualities and will offer an opportunity to create prototypes of basic dwellings for the challenging climate of the island using Marés stone and local techniques.

By integrating historical knowledge with innovative future solutions, we aim to develop designs that respect the island's heritage while enhancing resilience and sustainability in response to climate change.
