New York University's Master in Historical and Sustainable Architecture (MA) is a nine-month, London-based program focusing on the creative reuse of older buildings. We train our students to understand and develop innovative ways to recycle buildings, preserving built heritage through sustainable practice, development and adaptation.

Our curriculum is designed for students from diverse backgrounds and we especially welcome applications from architects and those with studio training, who seek experience working with historic buildings and properties.

Expertise in the adaptive reuse of historic buildings is valued across fields around the world, providing cost-efficient, environmentally-friendly solutions for development. Our program prepares students for careers in a wide range of careers through a curriculum encompassing both historical study and practical experience, including opportunities for original research with our faculty tutors. Alumni work as designers, advocates, administrators, researchers and consultants at architecture, development, construction and energy assessment firms, government agencies, non-profit advocacy groups and cultural institutions.

Our faculty are architects, planners and advocates who have worked on some of the most amboitious adaptive reuse projects in England. Much of the course comprises field studies to visit sites across the UK and Berlin, to see examples and learn from leaders in the field.
