London Design Festival 2014: pockets for TV remotes, newspapers and tablets hang over the arms of this wooden-framed chair by Norwegian design collective Angell, Wyller & Aarseth (+ slideshow).

The cushions of the Saddle chair drape over both sides, forming flaps that look similar to horse-riding gear.

Angell, Wyller & Aarseth added an extra layer of material to the overhanging sections to create pockets for slim items.

Wool or leather upholstery also covers the seat and back, while the chair's simple square frame is available in oak or ash.

"By separating the generic solid wooden frame from the upholstery, the notion, or structure of the rigid construction is challenged by the comfortable and soft leather and wool," Christoffer Angell told Dezeen.

The chairs are handcrafted by furniture manufacturer Slåke in its small factory on the west coast of Norway.

"The whole concept seems to fit with the handcrafted production process and becomes more beautiful when used and worn," said Angell.

"My personal favourite is the ash version with natural coloured leather as these materials receive the light in a beautiful way, highlighting the purity of the subtle curves and profiles."

The Saddle Chair will make its UK debut at the 100% Norway exhibition during next week's London Design Festival, from 13 to 21 September 2014.

Oslo-based design collective Angell, Wyller & Aarseth comprises Christoffer Angell, Øyvind Wyller and Symen Arseth, all design graduates of Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
