Chamber design gallery opens in New York's Chelsea
Pieces by Tom Dixon, Wim Crouwel and Alessandro Mendini feature in the first collection at New York's latest design gallery and boutique Chamber, curated by Belgian artists Studio Job (+ movie).
Chamber was founded by curator Juan Garcia Mosqueda to display and sell limited edition art and design pieces.
"The driving force behind Chamber is to elevate the status of designed objects through the communication of their narratives," said Garcia Mosqueda. "I am as fascinated by the stories behind the objects as I am by the stories of collectors who share in this passion."
The new venue is located in a space designed by New York architects MOS, within Neil Denari's HL23 building beneath the High Line park in Chelsea.
Chamber's first collection is curated and art directed by Belgian artists Job and Nynke Smeets of Studio Job, who have designed a series of pieces and created limited editions of previous products for the gallery.

The duo has selected products, textiles and furniture by established names including Tom Dixon, Wim Crouwel, Dieter Rams, Alessandro Mendini and Tord Boontje.
These will be presented alongside work by emerging designers Esther Janssen, Cmmnwlth and Formafantasma, who have created an oil vinegar set from hand-blown glass, oyster shell and cow horn.
Fashion designers Jantine van Peski and Martijn van Strien have created custom wearable and non-wearable pieces.
Within the collection is a range of rugs by Matali Crasset, Lanzavecchia & Wai and Studio Job for Nodus, and a series of black and white textiles by Dutch graphic designers – Julius Vermeulen, Swip Stolk and Wim Crouwel — that are applied to vintage furniture.
The space at 515 West 23rd Street features a vaulted ceiling and a wall of niches, where the stories behind each product will be presented using video, audio and text.
A new curator will be selected every two years to overhaul the collection, commission unique pieces and select rare items.
Each collection will be accompanied by a limited-edition perfume, beginning with a scent by Argentine perfumer Julian Bedel that comes in a porcelain bottle designed by Studio Job.
A catalogue of photographs, process drawings and text by the curators is designed by New York-based Studio Lin, who also created the graphic identity for Chamber.
