Milan 2010: French design brand Moustache will launch their second collection of furniture by designers including Big-Game, Matali Crasset and Bertjan Pot in Milan next week.

Above: Instant de vie by Matali Crasset. Instant de vie is a rond table made of birch wood. It is also a chest, closed by a detachable top. Each tray hinges on its base conferring a great agility to this little table. Like outstretched hands this extensions are invitations to put things on it. After use they retract to gain space.

The collection will be on display in Zona Tortona.

Above: Fold Up by Bertjan Pot. Creating the foldup lamp family, Bertjan Pot has drawn its inspiration from the photographer’s luminous umbrellas and the cineast’s light reflectors. More than just a light the foldup lamp, like a roof, creates a luminous space. More a room’s creator than a classic light, the foldup unfolds instantly. Hanging from a flexible carbon fiber’s sticks construction, this big light dome exists as a table lamp, as a floor lamp, and as a pendant light.

Above: Link by Big-Game. Like a construction game, Link is an elementary aluminium piece that enables to compose different suspensions with the given components. You can connect them by the simple screwing of a light bulb.

Moustache 2010

Founded in 2009 and run by Stéphane Arriubergé and Massimiliano Iorio Moustache’s aim is to bring together a group of like-minded designers to nurture the development of innovative and honest furnishings that will stand the test of time.

Above: Petite Gigue chair by François Azambourg. The Petite gigue chair is based on the marine technic called « à bouchain vif » which is used on light centreboard boats like the fireball. Manufacturing this piece requires competences that belong both to joinery and shipbuilding yard. Tripod, the Petite gigue chair is very stable and its stability is reinforced by the two legs of its user that makes it a five foot chair!

Moustache seeks to break away from pre-set market concepts and create innovative products by combining a variety of approaches and thought processes.

Above: Smallwork by Big-Game. The elementary geometric desk lamp Smallwork is made up of aluminium sides in which leds are integrated. The direction of its light makes it the ideal desk lamp.

Buoyed by the success of its first collection, Moustache keeps growing naturally by extending some of its product’s families, by widening the range of its products functions and by welcoming some new products that match its initials convictions.

Above: Bold by Big-Game. Newcomer of the bold family, the coat rack grows like a graphic plant, between the vegetal and the organic in order to create, on differents heights a soft and cushioned support to the clothes.

To open new domestic horizons designers such as François Azambourg, Big Game, Matali Crasset, Ana Mir & Emili Padros and Inga Sempé cohabited since the beginning in Moustache and have been joined in 2010 by Bertjan Pot.

Above: Vaporetto by Inga Sempé. Vaporetto is the last of the Vapeur lamp’s family. Smaller, this lamp will find its room on shelves or on a night table.

Rather than artificially developing the principle of novelty at any price, the products produced by Moustache will attempt to take advantage of passing time and to give them a little of the heritage value that furniture and objects held in the past.

Above: Perle clock by François Azambourg. The Perle clock has three hands on which Swarowski cristals are thread. Due to the clock movement, the pearls slide along the hands creating delicate sparklings.

Far however from looking nostalgically at the contemporary production of the objects, the Moustache collection will try to anticipate and project the solutions for our scenarios for future life.

Above: Guichet by Inga Sempé. Classic at first glance, Inga Sempé’s guichet clock is interesting because of slight differences that can only be noticed by paying attention. The clock appears round and then you’ll discover its oval, seems to be gray but is blue… Opened or close, you can see the time running out trough its aperture, following the hypnotic rythm of inclined stripes.

At the scale of its market, Moustache will attempt to take up a position beside those which, rejecting some ideals of the society, are entrusted with substituting and inventing new ones.

Above: Micro by Big-Game. Referring to the journalist’s microphone, the oak and colored foam pegs Micro are directly fixed to the wall so that you can softly hang your clothes on it.

Above: Instant armseat by Matali Crasset. The « instant » family extends with a one armrest version of the seat (left or right). The armrest is large enough to put a drink or a glass on it. Together, the two seat form a bench. An additional comfort level is added by a sheepskin from Pyrénées.
