Swedish furniture giant IKEA and Danish design brand Hay have released a short teaser film that shows the materials to be used in their upcoming collaborative furniture and homeware range (+ movie).

The two companies created the minute-long clip to build anticipation for the Ypperlig collection, which was announced last month during IKEA's Democratic Design Day event in Sweden and will be released in 2017.

Set in an unfurnished apartment, the movie shows a glass sphere rolling across a herringbone parquet floor. A white cuboid appears to melt, before a giant rattan coil erupts from the wooden floor tiles and breaks through the ceiling.

The film also sees threads from an unravelling cotton bobbin weave themselves into a piece of floating grey fabric.

It was produced by Danish studio Kuhl & Solvstrom, with creative direction from Copenhagen studio Barkas and Nikolaj Fremming of Danish-Spanish agency Nikextension.

When the collaboration was first revealed in June 2016, Hay co-founders Rolf and Mette Hay unveiled a redesign of IKEA's iconic blue and yellow Frakta bag – made from a white and forest-green woven fabric, with forest-green straps.

The same day, IKEA presented its PS 2017 collection – which includes "no waste" products made from recycled materials – and its first range created with Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek.
