10. Kortrijk auditorium by Dehullu Architecten

Dehullu Architects chose to arrange mottled grey bricks in a vertical pattern to give this auditorium a natural curve.

9. Black Pearl by Studio Rolf.fr with Zecc Architecten

The original brickwork walls remain relatively untouched in this renovated Rotterdam townhouse that was previously an abandoned apartment block.

8. The Design Republic Commune by Neri&Hu

Neri&Hu removed the decaying layers of wood and plaster from the walls of this former colonial police station in Shanghai.

7. The Termitary House by Tropical Space

Vietnamese studio Tropical Space enclosed the concrete structure of this two-storey house inside a perforated grille of baked brick walls.

6. Winkley Workshop by Kirkwood McCarthy

This derelict workshop in east London was renovated by Kirkwood McCarthy, who used brick floors from the basement to the courtyard to ensure that the entire lower level felt like an extension of the garden. Find out more about Winkley Workshop »

5. Loke Thye Kee Residences by Ministry of Design

4. Höst by Norm Architects and Menu

3. MSGM Headquarters by Fabio Ferrillo

Italian architect Fabio Ferrillo transformed a derelict blacksmith's workshop into Milanese fashion brand MSGM's new headquarters.

The twisted bricks in the walls of this speak-easy style bar in Bangkok create openings that allow passers-by a glimpse inside.

Our winner this week is another converted shophouse, this time in Singapore.
