Marc Newson
It might be the diversity of Marc Newson's output that has the Dezeen audience hooked. The prolific Australian designer is known for creating the most expensive design object sold at auction – his Lockhead Lounge for £2 million. But he's worked on everything from aircraft cabins to shoes and from concept cars to dish-drying racks.
This year was no exception. In the same 12 months as he created an £82,000 silver tea set with mammoth-ivory handles for Georg Jensen, Newson presented a colourful kettle and toaster for affordable kitchen appliances brand Sunbeam. And while he teamed up with Montblanc to launch a luxury pen plated with rare metals, he also worked with streetwear brand G-Star RAW on outfits that would be easy to throw together in the morning.
Now regularly designing at Apple – where he is thought to be heavily involved in both Apple's watch and automotive projects – Newson has a huge influence that continues to grow.
