Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola is one of few high-profile female designers. She has a whirlwind energy and prolific output, and her influence grows by the year.

In September 2015 Patricia Urquiola was appointed art director of Cassina, the Italian furniture company now in its 90th year.

Born in Spain but long based in Italy, Urquiola has proceeded to revive the flagging brand, overhauling the New York showroom and launching a first collection that references the brand's heritage but updates it with input from Philippe Starck, Ora ïto and the late Zaha Hadid.

Outside of Cassina, Urquiola's designs regularly grab attention on the strength of an image alone. Dezeen's most popular Urquiola story in these 12 months was her Salinas kitchen for Boffi, which features black metal frames inspired by her grandfather's house.
