Technology giant Samsung took the brave step last year of commissioning avant-garde designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec to design a television.

The resulting Serif TV – designed and sold as a piece of furniture rather than a piece of technology – became an instant critical success as well as our most popular story about both Samsung and the Bouroullecs. This was undoubtedly helped by the fact that Dezeen was invited to create a world-exclusive movie about the product.

Also popular this year was our story on Samsung's new Silicon Valley headquarters, which features pods where staff can take naps.
