Rafael Viñoly
This year Rafael Viñoly Architects was primarily in spotlight for building-related debacles.
The firm's Walkie Talkie skyscraper made headlines in 2013 for melting cars, but last year the building was under scrutiny once again – but this time for causing a downdraught strong enough to knock pedestrians over.
Architecture critic Owen Hatherley panned the building as "massive, horrible and unavoidable" in a column written for Dezeen, and later that year it topped the list of the UK's ugliest buildings by winning the Carbuncle Cup.
Viñoly also owned up to "screw-ups" with the firm's 432 Park Avenue tower in New York – the tallest residential tower in the western hemisphere – but later apologised for his comments, which he claimed where taken out of context.
