Maggie's Centres
Maggie's is a charity that provides support to people with cancer and their families. The organisation has worked with some of the world's most famous names in architecture, including Norman Foster, Snøhetta and OMA to establish Maggie's Centres throughout the UK.
Its approach has led to recognition from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), which awarded Maggie's cancer-care facility by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners its prestigious Stirling Prize in 2009 and nearly repeated the honour in 2015, when it shortlisted a centre by Edinburgh office Reiach and Hall Architects.
Maggie's continued to pull readers' focus throughout the Hot List year with its tranquil-looking designs for a plant-covered centre in Yorkshire by Thomas Heatherwick and one in Southampton by Amanda Levete and a greenhouse-like outpost in Manchester by Norman Foster, completed in 2016.
